A third-generation Rotarian who joined the Rotary family in 1993, Ovais Ahmed Kohari belongs to Rotary Club of Karachi Karsaz, where he served as President for the year 2002-2003. He has also served on the board as Vice President, Treasurer and Director, a total of 10 times; additionally he has been a member of various club committees and was instrumental in establishing the Rotary Eye Hospital in Malir, Karachi, under TRF Matching Grant with District 3010, India. 

He also led the club sponsor of two Rotaract Clubs during his tenure as Chairman of the Rotaract Committee. He has served in a number of capacities at the district level, including Assistant Governor, District Secretary and District Rotary Coordinator and is the District Governor for the term 2017-18. He is also serving as resource and faculty member for the Rotary Leadership Institute, Pakistan.

Ovais Kohari has been instrumental in establishing the first Rotary APCNA Pacemaker Bank, in collaboration with Heartbeat International and Association of Pakistani descent Cardiologists of North America, an initiative that was recognised as an Outstanding Corporate Service Project by Rotary International.

In 2012, he was selected to lead the Rotary Group Study Exchange Team to District 7040, Canada. The visit resulted in a Rotary Friendship Tour by the Canadian Rotarians, thus further strengthening the bonds of friendship between the Rotarians of Pakistan and Canada. He was also a Rotaractor in his youthful days and served as the District Rotaract Representative for the year 1985-86, getting the Best Rotaractor Award in 1986. In 2014 he was recognised as the Best Rotarian of the District. In 2017, he received the Rotary Foundation Regional Award for a polio free world.

A businessman by profession, Ovais runs an automobile repair and sales concern and a CNG and fuel station. He is a car enthusiast and maintains a keen interest in the restoration of antique cars. He also loves travelling: he has attended 16 Rotary District Conferences, 3 Rotary Peace and Goodwill Conferences and the 2002 Rotary International Convention in Barcelona, Spain.

Together with his family, comprising wife Aliya, daughter Alizeh and son Aadil, he has visited over 16 countries, including India, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, France, Italy,Spain, UK, USA and Saudia Arabia.
